Library Access in Response to COVID-19 : Home

Library Hours and Access

Library Hours

The library initially closed by Executive Order on March 16, 2020.  Though we have the Governor's approval to reopen on June 8th, we are still working on changes in our library to keep our community safe. Those changes will take a bit more time to complete, and, like other libraries, we will wait to reopen until our spaces are reconfigured to safely serve our community of users. The library will closed through the end of July.  We will have further hours information as we approach that time.

The reference desk will continue to provide service by email request.  Reference questions should be submitted via email at reference@law.msu.edu.  Please note that due to varied staff hours, the reference desk phone may not be available and email is the preferred method of communication.

Library Access

The library is currently closed.

If You Have Books Checked Out

If you have books checked out that were due after the library closed, your book due dates have been extended to June 30, 2020.  To return books, you can drop them off at the MSU Library Book Return on Red Cedar Road.  The drop boxes are on the north side of the road across from the football stadium.  You can drive up to these boxes, and a Google Map is available here.

If you are out of town or otherwise unable to return your books, please contact the reference desk via email.

Study Aids

Study Aids

Some study aids are available electronically:

CALI offers exercises for students to complete to review legal material.  Students should contact the reference desk for a password by emailing the reference desk.

West Academic Study Aids contain a variety of study aids and outlines.  Students will need to log in using a NetID and password.

The WK Online Study Aid Library contains Wolters Kluwer and Aspen study aids and outlines.  Students will need to login using a NetID and password.  Please note that access to WK materials will end on June 30, 2020.

The Bluebook

The Bluebook

The library has secured limited electronic access to the Bluebook.  If you are a student and need to use the Bluebook electronically, email a request (including your name) to domannbr@law.msu.edu and we will forward you an access code.  Please note that codes are limited and we will only issue one code per student.

After you get your code, go to www.legalbluebook.com, click on "Bluebook Key Redemption," and follow the instructions to set up an account. You will only need to use the code once to set up your account - after that, logging in will give you Bluebook access.

Texts and Class Resources

Texts and Casebooks

Library Access

While the library is open we will continue to provide access to the reserve collection and the check-out time for these items is 24 hours.

Electronic Access

While situations are changing rapidly, so far we have the following information regarding electronic access through publishers:

Lexis is providing electronic casebook access on a title-by-title basis.  To inquire about this, students should contact Lexis at (800) 833-9844.

Carolina Academic Press has partnered with VitalSource to make textbooks available to you.  You will need to sign in or set up an account to get started - use your msu.edu email account to sign up.  Your books should appear once you are able to log in.

Wolters Kluwer / Aspen has multiple access options.  If you have purchased a print version of a textbook, the digital version may be available at the Connected Casebook website.  You will need an access code that is inside your print textbook.

* Please note that complimentary access from West, Wolters Kluwer, and Aspen due to courses shifting online has expired.
